Our teacher took us out for ice cream after the Haiku meeting last month, and I ordered a Strawberry Banana. As it happened to be the eve of Halloween, they also had a mini raffle drawing. I got a stuffed ice cream cone. :D

Starbucks coffee in convenience stores

Yeah, I know that we can find these products in 7-11s in Taiwan.
And yeah, I know that the only thing that's different is the Kyoto Matcha Latte variety.
But that's not the point of this blog entry.

Did you see the miniature mugs of coffee?!
How I wish I could get my hands on those...

Would they ban me from their shop indefinitely if I ask them to give the miniatures to me?

Haiku about clouds

My supervising professor at IUK, Dr David McMurray, is a Haiku expert and always encourages us to produce our own Haiku. Last Thursday, we went to one of his off-campus Haiku meetings and my Haiku won a prize (a Halloween candy bag and a Haiku board)

Here's the Haiku. It was inspired by the clouds in Kagoshima and Thunderthud's comment about Joni Mitchell's song about clouds. Here it is:

Chilly breeze
gliding through angel hair
autumn clouds

The Man Who Refused to Throw His Trash Away

More like, "The Man Who was So Confused About How to Sort His Trash That He Stacked All Unwanted/Rotting Food Into the Freezer."

Sun Royal Hotel Kagoshima

We went to Sun Royal Hotel last weekend to attend a dinner lecture, and of course, the dinner afterwards. The six (?) course dinner cost 5,500 yen per person, so thank God we didn't have to pay for that from our own pockets.

As is the case in many hotels, the food was acceptable and presented beautifully, but definitely not the best food around. (It wasn't enough to fill us up, too :P)

Veggies

These pictures were taken a few days ago. We were walking down our road and this elderly man called us over. He then started chatting with us (he said he went to war (I forgot which) and had to walk from Malaysia to Singapore), after which he gave us a bunch of veggies, which he planted himself. The veggies tastes slightly spicy. Anyone know what they are?

University Laptop

We can borrow university laptops for two weeks at a time. These laptops are super light and kinda mini. It's great for when I want to go online without having to go the library or the computer laboratory.

So, now I'm gonna reconstruct my schedule and stay until 5pm every day at the Student Hall for some studying and catching up. :D
